PLÀUDITE TEATRE

Some general information

Plàudite Teatre is a Non-profit Organisation created in 1998 at L'Hospitalet de Llobregat ( Barcelona ), the second biggest town in Cataluña ( Spain ) with some 270.000 inhabitants.

Plàudite Teatre is devoted to promote activities related to Culture, Art and Education through Scenic Arts.

Based at Santa Eulàlia neighbourhood –with an ample theatrical tradition- and at its Cultural Center , these are the melting scenes between the association and its artistic expression.

From its birth Plàudite Teatre has been working in two areas: Creation and Education.

-The Creation Area expresses itself through its own creation, experimentation, production, organization and artistic participation in cultural actions like performances at museums and also actions of solidarity (SolidArt).

This way the association achieves its own and characteristic stile which is able to feed a professional company called “Apòstrofe” and an amateur group “Plàudite Teatre”. Its plays, mostly of its own creation, take form by contemporary poetry and through the “Theatre of Movement”, its personal stile.

Plàudite Teatre also organizes -with other local organisations- the Santa Eulàlia Theatre Festival , at its 6 th edition (2008).

-At the Education Area Plàudite Teatre develops a model based on the practical experience -of ten years working (2008).

Between the members of the associations we find professionals from Education, Pedagogy, Sociology, Psychology and Communication, all interested in the Scenic Arts as a powerful tool to bring values to our society.

This modes has been adopted by the “ Escola de Música-Centre de les Arts” (Music and Arts Center ) of Hospitalet de Llobregat ( Barcelona ), where Plàudite Teatre develops from its very beginning the educational program of Scenic Arts.

In parallel Plàudite Teatre organise regular courses of Scenic Arts, Theatre-Dance and Theatre of Movement for children, young and adults at different points of this city (L'H), scenic activities at schools and colleges, with the young at the public spaces, and social theatre addressed to several collectives –immigrants, psychic handicapped, and so forth.

Education, integration and intercultural behaviour are keywords to this model.

Plàudite Teatre develops the Scenic Arts as a tool for social cohesion and connection between different groups and institutions, creating webs and connecting people living at the same space, by its characteristic professionalism that brings through Theatre of Movement and its own contemporary and poetical point of view.

The name “Plàudite” is the imperative form of the Latin verb “plaudo” which means to applaud. It was used at the end of Plauto's comedies (III b. C.) to point the end of the play.
